SAAC Spotlight: Maddie Stein

Get to know the KU Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) representatives each week through our SAAC Spotlight series. First up is Maddie Stein, a senior softball player from Oklahoma City. SAAC is composed of appointed representatives from each of KU’s 18 varsity teams and helps promote communication between faculty, administrators, coaches and student-athletes. SAAC members meet monthly to discuss ideas and issues pertinent to KU Athletics, the Big 12 and the NCAA.

Why did you choose KU?
The tradition

How did you choose your major?
I knew that I would want to pursue a career in collegiate or professional athletics

What’s your favorite class you’ve taken at KU and why?
Sport Soc, and because I learned very interesting things about sports

Where is the best place to sit for lectures?
Middle of the pack

What advice would you give to incoming KU freshmen?
Enjoy every second of college!

What do you think is the prettiest place on campus?
The fountain

Most underrated place to study on campus?
Couches above the spiral staircase in Wagnon

What leadership skills have you learned while being a student-athlete at KU?
The ability to motivate people of all different types to a common goal.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from balancing the demands of being a Division I student-athlete and academics?
Be patient, and plan ahead!
