KU Men’s Hoops Host Annual Holiday Clinic

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Spirits were high for the Kansas men’s basketball team as they hosted the annual Men’s Basketball Holiday Clinic Sunday afternoon.

“I’m an energy guy, so this is not hard for me,” KU junior Jamari Traylor said prior to working with the approximate 500 boys and girls ages first through sixth grade who attended the annual event. “It’s good to come out here and interact with little kids and give them something during their holiday time. These kids are out here to have a good time and I’m here to do the same.”

The Men’s Basketball Holiday Clinic opened with KU head coach Bill Self introducing the Kansas team and staff to the clinicians. They then were organized by age and broke up into thirds. KU players and staff counseled the three groups in historic Allen Fieldhouse, the KU Practice Gym and the Horejsi Family Athletic Center learning basketball fundamentals such as shooting, dribbling and defense.

Following each themed session, which included lowered goals to assist the young participants, the groups would rotate buildings to get a full feel of where the Jayhawks practice and play throughout the year. The clinic concluded with an autograph/photo period inside Allen Fieldhouse.

“We have a lot of little Jayhawk fans (here today),” Self said. “A lot of kids are here with their parents and they are visiting grandparents. They’ll have access to have tickets to the game on Tuesday (vs. Kent State), so that will be fun for everybody.”

No. 10/10 Kansas (9-2) will play host to Kent State (8-3) on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 7 p.m. (Central) at Allen Fieldhouse. The game will be televised on the Jayhawk IMG Television Network/ESPN Full Court/ESPN3.
