Jayhawks Host 2014 Holiday Hoops Clinic

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas women’s basketball program celebrated the end of 2014 with its annual Holiday Hoops Clinic on Wednesday afternoon inside Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks and 260 of their biggest fans filled the historic gym with fun, laughter and, of course, tons of basketball.

“Our players love events like the holiday clinic,” said head coach Bonnie Henrickson. “The players run the stations and have a good time with the kids playing basketball. They come to spend time with the players, so it’s fun to spend a couple of hours teaching the fundamentals.”

Children from kindergarten to eighth grade participated in the yearly clinic that includes all sorts of basketball drills with current Jayhawks and the KU coaching staff. The young basketball players, along with some parents, rotated through seven stations that focused on different skills.

The two-hour clinic concluded with an autograph session and photographs with the Kansas players and coaches. Each participant received a voucher to attend a KU women’s basketball game later on this season.

“It’s a really good experience to hang out with the kids for a few hours,” said senior forward Bunny Williams. “It’s a little bit more laid back than our practices, so it’s fun to let your hair down and teach basketball.”

Kansas hits the road for its Big 12 opener at No. 3 Texas on Saturday, Jan. 3. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m., on the Longhorn Network and the Jayhawk Radio Network.
