Jayhawks Debut at No. 70 in ITA Rankings

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Following a top-40 win and a 5-0 win-streak over the opening two weeks of dual play, Kansas women’s tennis broke into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s top-75 team rankings at No. 70 as announced Tuesday. This is the first time in the 2013-14 season that the Jayhawks have been ranked under first-year head coach Todd Chapman.

The Jayhawks join the ranks of seven other Big 12 foes on ITA’s list. KU remains the lone undefeated team in the conference.

It has been almost a year since Kansas has been ranked in the ITA. Last season, the 2012-13 squad debuted on March 12 at No. 68. Last season’s ranking was the first in four years.

Kansas will travel to Houston on Friday to play the recently-ranked No. 66 Cougars. Both Houston and Kansas are undefeated and were unranked prior to this week’s rankings. The Jayhawks will finish the weekend back at hometo play UT-Arlington Sunday, in the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
