Kansas Netters Reach Highest Ranking in Seven Years

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Riding a seven-match win-streak, Kansas women’s tennis reached its highest ranking in seven years as the Jayhawks climbed from No. 70 to No. 60 as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tuesday.

Directed by first-year head coach Todd Chapman, the Jayhawks have defeated two ranked squads this season including an upset over then-No. 36 Nebraska on Jan. 31 and No. 66 Houston on Feb. 14.

The Jayhawks debuted in the 2007 season at No. 59 on the ITA Top-75. That was the only time the program was ranked that season. The highest ranking for Kansas in a weekly ranking was No. 52 in 2001. Week-by-week rankings were unavailable before 2000 and ITA ranked only at the end of the season.

Kansas heads out on the road this weekend to tussle with Eastern Kentucky (Feb. 21) and Kentucky (Feb. 22) in hopes of continuing the teams undefeated season-opening run.
