LAWRENCE, Kan. – In a day that honored Kansas tennis veterans, the program’s future claimed the lone win for the Jayhawks as No. 25 Texas rolled past No. 57 Kansas, 6-1. Freshman Morgan Barnhill notched the only victory for the Jayhawks on Senior Day at the No. 6 singles spot.

With the victory, Texas (10-9, 3-3 Big 12) extends its all-time series lead over Kansas (11-8, 2-4 Big 12) to 26-0.

Texas made quick work of the doubles competition as the Longhorn pair of Breaunna Addison and Elizabeth Begley downed KU’s Maria Jose Cardona and Maria Belen Ludueña at No. 1 doubles, 8-1.

Texas’ Pippa Horn and Juliana Gajic were the next to strike for Texas, downing Barnhill and fellow freshman Caroline Henderson on the third court, 8-5. The duo’s win secured the doubles point for Texas, giving the Longhorns the early advantage.

On the second court, Ratnika Batra and Neda Koprcina battled with the Kansas senior tandem of Dylan Windom and Paulina Los on the second court. The teams swapped games until the Longhorns pulled away in the tiebreaker, 8-6.

After the break, Kansas and Texas squared off on the singles courts. No. 18 Addison quickly bested Windom to open the match at No. 1 singles with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 mark. Addison’s Longhorn teammate No. 112 Begley followed suit, downing Cardona on the second court, 6-1, 6-2.

To clinch the match for Texas, No. 86 Batra defeated Luduena on the third court, 6-1, 6-2.

The Longhorns grabbed court four as Koprcina topped Los, 6-2, 6-2, and pushed the score to 5-0.

Barnhill at No. 16 singles, fell to Lina Padegimaite in the first set, 2-6, but bounced back in the second 6-2. The match went into a tiebreaker where Barnhill claimed the match by three points in the super tiebreaker (2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7).

Texas grabbed its last point of the afternoon on court five as Horn downed Anastasija Trubica, 6-3, 6-4, to put Texas ahead, 6-1.

The Jayhawks drop to an 11-8 overall record and 2-4 in the Big 12. Texas pushes its record to 10-9 and 3-3 in the Big 12.

At the conclusion of the match the Kansas team, friends and family presented seniors Claire Dreyer, Paulina Los and Dylan Windom with framed jerseys to commemorate their careers as Jayhawks.

The Jayhawks bid farewell to the Jayhawk Tennis Center as Kansas heads out on the road for the next two weeks as it completes conference play. Kansas will first meet the Red Raiders in Lubbock, Texas on April 11 at 5 p.m. Then, the Jayhawks will head to Fort Worth, Texas to take on the TCU Horned Frogs at 10 a.m., on April 13. Kansas will conclude regular Big 12 play with the Sunflower Showdown at Kansas State on April 19 at noon.
