THE BASELINE
After a four-match homestand, the 65th-ranked Kansas women’s tennis heads out on the road to meet Big 12 foes No. 34 Texas Tech and No. 54 TCU. The Jayhawks (11-8, 2-4 Big 12) will first meet the Lady Raiders (14-7, 4-3 Big 12) on April 11 at 5 p.m., in the McLeod Tennis Complex. Kansas will then head to TCU (10-11, 3-4 Big 12) for a match on April 13 at 10 a.m., at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, Kansas welcomed No. 16 Baylor and No. 25 Texas to the Jayhawk Tennis Center.

On April 4, the Lady Bears rolled past the Jayhawks, 5-2, but not before Kansas grabbed two wins. Unranked senior, Dylan Windom, defeated No. 74 Ema Burgic in a third set tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4). The win was Windom’s fourth three-set match in a row after falling to ranked foes in the past three matches. Senior Paulina Los notched KU’s second win of the day over Makenzie Craft, 6-3, 6-3.

Two days later KU made its final appearance of the spring season at the Jayhawk Tennis Center for the program’s Senior Day honoring Claire Dreyer, Paulina Los and Dylan Windom. The Longhorns spoiled the KU celebration, defeating the Jayhawks, 6-1. Kansas’ lone win came from freshman Morgan Barnhill at No. 6 singles, with a win over Lina Padegimaite, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7).

THE SERIES: KANSAS VS. TEXAS TECH
Texas Tech leads, 12-9, in the all-time series and holds a commanding nine-match winning streak over Kansas.

Last season, KU welcomed Tech to Lawrence where the Lady Raiders ran past the Jayhawks, 6-1. Kansas notched two victories in the match – one from Anastasija Trubica and Victoria Khanevskaya at No. 3 doubles and a win from current senior, Dylan Windom at No. 4 singles.

The Lady Raiders and Jayhawks met at the Midland Invitational and Cougar Classic last fall. At the Midland Invitational, Maria Jose Cardona and partner, Los, met Beatriz Santos and Sam Czarniak in their first doubles match of the season, falling, 8-5. Senior Claire Dreyer took on Santos in a singles match where she downed the Lady Raider, 6-2, 6-4, while Los defeated Sarah Toti, 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Anastasia Trubica took on Czarniak in the consolation rounds, losing 7-5, 7-5, and Windom fell to Santos, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1. Cardona defeated Claire Williams in her first match of the season, 7-5, 6-0, then downed Toti, 6-7, 7-5, 10-8.

SCOUTING THE LADY RAIDERS
The Lady Raiders have downed multiple ranked opponents this season. Including No. 18 Oklahoma (5-2), No. 25 Arizona (6-1) and most recently, No. 54 TCU.

In singles, TTU’s Kilgo plays No. 1 singles and touts an overall 15-15 record this season. At the No. 1 spot, Kilgo has gone 7-13, notching a key win over No. 53 Mary Anne Daines of 9th-ranked Alabama earlier this season. Supporting Kilgo at the No. 2 spot is Tultumbde, who has gone 13-10 on the year and 8-8 on the second court.

The reigning Big 12 doubles champions, 47th-ranked Kilgo and Adams, lead the team with an impressive 19-7 doubles mark this season. In dual play and at the first court, the tandem have posted an 11-5 mark this spring.

THE SERIES: KANSAS VS. TCU
The Kansas-TCU all-time series began last season when the Horned Frogs joined the Big 12 Conference. In their first matchup, TCU blanked Kansas on its home courts, 7-0. The only KU win came from current Jayhawks, Paulina Los and doubles partner Maria Belen Luduena, who defeated TCU’s Federica Dentin and Kelsey Sundaram at No. 2 doubles, 8-7 (2).

TCU and KU met last September at the Midland Invitational where Luduena went toe-to-toe with two Horned Frogs in the singles competition. Luduena defeated TCU’s Seda Arantekin in a third set, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2, and downed her teammate, Hanna Victorsson, 6-2, 6-4.

SCOUTING THE HORNED FROGS
TCU has notched multiple upsets this year, including beating No. 22 Texas in March, 5-2. The Horned Frogs also topped No. 63 North Florida (5-2) and No. 38 UC Irvine (4-0).

The Horned Frogs boast two ranked singles players in No. 50 Stefanie Tan and No. 119 Simona Parajova, who play at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Tan has gone 29-7 in the 2013-14 season and 14-3 at the No. 1 singles position. Parajova posts a 20-6 record this year and has gone 15-2 on the second court.

The duo of Arantekin and Tan lead the Horned Frogs in doubles. The tandem has gone 9-4 together this year and 8-4 at the first court.

KANSAS CONNECTIONS
KU’s first-year head coach Todd Chapman will visit familiar stomping grounds as he returns to Texas Tech for the first time since leaving the program last season. Chapman came to Kansas following a four-year stint as the women’s tennis team’s assistant coach under head coach Todd Petty.

#WINDOMING
In her final weekend playing at the Jayhawk Tennis Center, senior Dylan Windom upended No. 74 Ema Burgic of No. 16 Baylor on April 4. Before the win, Windom’s last three matches were against ranked opponents and were won by her opponent in a tiebreaker. In her match against Burgic, Windom ended the streak and defeated her in a third set tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4). The win also marks Windom’s first victory over a ranked opponent this season.

THIS TIME, LAST YEAR
Last April 12 and 14, the Jayhawks welcomed No. 15 Texas Tech and No. 29 Texas. The Lady Raiders ran past the Jayhawks, 6-1. The tandem of Anastasija Trubica and Victoria Khanevskaya routed Elizabeth Ullathorne and Caroline Stack, 8-6 in doubles while Dylan Windom defeated Ullathorne at No. 4 singles to put the Jayhawks on the board. The Jayhawks dropped their second match of the weekend to the Longhorns, 6-1. The tandem of Trubica and Khanevskaya claimed another victory in doubles, while Trubica grabbed the only point for Kansas with a third set tiebreaking win over Lana Groenvynck, 0-6, 6-2, 7-6 (9).

VINTAGE STOCK

The then-unranked Jayhawks upset then-No. 36 Nebraska on the road, 4-3 in their dual season opener. The win was the largest upset for Kansas in ten years and only the third time in a decade KU defeated a top-50 team. Previously, Kansas defeated No. 46 New Mexico on March 9, 2008, and No. 48 Oklahoma on March 18, 2005.
KU’s No. 33 ranking on March 3 was the highest ranking the Jayhawks have reached in program history. The Jayhawks previously broke the record a week prior when they were pegged at No. 45; they debuted on the charts at No. 70 on Feb. 11.
The Jayhawks were picked to tie Kansas State for seventh place in the Big 12 preseason poll, as voted by the conference coaches.
Kansas opened its 2013-14 season on an eight-match winning streak before losing to current 34th-ranked Kentucky, 4-0. The Jayhawks’ opening run ties them for the second longest opening win streak since the program’s first season in 1977.
To open the dual match season, senior Claire Dreyer went on a ten-match win streak before falling to Marcelina Cichon of No. 19 Tulsa on March 8.
In TennisRecruiting.net’s Top 25 Women’s Recruiting Classes for the Class of 2014, Kansas’ recruiting class received 76 votes, leaving it just one spot (six votes) below the Top 25 and 32 votes ahead of the next-highest vote-getter.
