Stein, Brickey Earn All-Big 12 Honors

IRVING, Texas – As Kansas softball prepares for its first NCAA appearance since 2006, sophomore shortstop Chaley Brickey earned her second-consecutive All-Big 12 Second Team honor and junior first baseman Maddie Stein was named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team as announced by the conference Tuesday.

Brickey, a Haltom City, Texas, native was named an All-Big 12 Second Team selection for the second year in a row after claiming her first honor at the conclusion of her freshman campaign. Brickey hit .333 in conference action with 17 hits, including four home runs, and a team-best 13 RBIs. She also collected 11 walks and eight runs scored.  

Stein, an El Reno, Oklahoma, native earned her first Big 12 All-Defensive Team accolade and second honor overall after being selected to the All-Big 12 Second Team in 2012. She started all 18 games at first base this season with seven assists and only one error for a .989 fielding percentage. During league play, Stein recorded 17 hits, three doubles and five RBIs.

After earning an at-large bid, Kansas is set to make its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since the 2006 season. The Jayhawks are headed to the Columbia Regional, which features host Missouri, Bradley and Nebraska.
