KU Softball Adds Wesley to Roster for 2015

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas softball head coach Megan Smith announced Tuesday afternoon the addition of transfer Monique Wesley to the Jayhawks’ roster for 2015.
 
Wesley, a right-handed pitcher from Fontana, California, played her first two seasons of collegiate softball at Cal State Fullerton. With the Titans, Wesley posted a 7-6 record with a save and 74 strikeouts. She pitched against programs including Tennessee, Nebraska, Arizona, UCLA and DePaul, who all appeared in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
 
“We’re excited that Monique has decided to become a Jayhawk,” Smith said. “She comes from an extremely athletic and competitive family and she brings that to the circle. She works hard, is a team player and as a pitcher has a great mindset. She is going to add a lot to our pitching staff for the next two seasons.”
 
As a sophomore, Wesley led the Titans’ pitching staff with seven complete games including her first career shutout over Cal State Northridge (5/9). She tossed a career-best 10 K’s against Canisius (3/14). Wesley appeared in 29 games and made 14 starts in the circle, throwing 90 and two-third innings in 2014 with a 4.17 ERA and 67 strikeouts. She registered a 7-6 mark on the season.
 
During her rookie season at Cal State Fullerton, Wesley made four starts and five appearances after missing the beginning of the season due to an injury. She ended her freshman season with a 5.48 ERA and seven strikeouts in 15 and third innings pitched.
 
Wesley prepped at Etiwanda High School (Etiwanda, California) and was a three-year letterwinner with the Eagles softball team. She was named First-Team All-Baseline League during her senior campaign, where she finished 16-3 in the circle with a 1.90 ERA and 153 strikeouts. Also during her senior season, Wesley held opponents to a .186 batting average. As a sophomore, Wesley concluded the season with a 0.29 ERA and a .120 opposing batting average. Wesley began her high school career at Cajon High School in San Bernardino, California. With the Eagles, Wesley was named First-Team All-San Andreas League and all-county. She was 14-3 in the circle with a 0.62 ERA, 11 shutouts and 137 strikeouts. Wesley threw back-to-back no-hitters and 17 consecutive shutout innings.
 
Wesley will join the Jayhawks has a junior in 2015 and have two years of eligibility remaining.
