Pair of Jayhawks Notch Runner-Up Finishes at NACAC U23 Championships

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – Senior Michael Stigler and junior Sydney Conley each tallied second-place finishes in their respective events Sunday afternoon as they competed for the United States at the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) U23 Championships.

Stigler, who is a three-time First Team All-American in the 400-meter hurdles, was edged out by U.S. teammate and Colorado State’s All-American, Trevor Brown. Brown leaned through the finish .06 seconds ahead of the Jayhawk, Stigler, who took second in 49.98. The runner-up finish is the second for Stigler after he also earned silver in the event at the same meet in 2012.

Conley followed Stigler’s lead with a second-place finish of her own in the long jump. The Fayetteville, Arkansas native leaped to a mark of 5.98 meters (19’7½”) and finished second to fellow American Shakeela Saunders, who won the event with a jump of 6.40 meters (21’0″).

With the track portion of the season complete for all the Jayhawks, Kansas will next see its athletes in action on the cross country course with the first meet taking place in Lawrence at the Bob Timmons Dual Classic on Aug. 30.
