Kansas Women’s Golf Inks International Recruit

LAWRENCE, Kan. – After getting tremendous results from recruits from Thailand, Kansas women’s golf coach Erin O’Neil has signed another Thailand native, Pitsinee “Lizzie” Winyarat, to a national letter of intent.

Winyarat attended Bromsgrove International School Thailand in Bangkok for her high school career. The school is located within the grounds of a 36-hole golf course and home of junior golf in Thailand.

“Lizzie is a great player and has a lot of international experience,” O’Neil said. “She has played in the U.S. a bunch and over in Asia, so she has a lot of knowledge that she brings with her. I think she will come in and play right away.”

Winyarat will be the third member currently on the KU roster from Thailand, joining junior Yupaporn Kawinpakorn and sophomore Pornvipa Sakdee. Last year, Kawinpakorn set the KU single-season stroke average record with a 74.46 in earning All-Big 12 honors. Sakdee was the only freshman on the KU team last season and recorded two top-10 finishes. Another Thailand native, Thanuttra Boonraksasat, graduated from KU last spring and is Kansas’ all-time leader in event appearances with 47. Boonraksasat is currently playing professionally in Thailand.

“Lizzie played in the U.S Girls Junior (Tournament) two years ago, and (KU assistant coach) Katy (Nahm) and I watched her there and liked her,” O’Neil added. “She is also friends with some of our Thai players so it was kind of a connection through them too and it worked out well.”
