LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas football had a great evening taking part in Sunday evening’s KU Night at the K as the Kansas City Royals hosted the Cleveland Indians on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.

Thousands of Kansas fans showed up at Kauffman stadium to support both the Royals and Jayhawks. Kansas football captains and leadership council, along with head coach Charlie Weis, offensive coordinator John Reagan and defensive coordinator Clint Bowen signed autographs prior to first pitch.

KU senior linebacker Ben Heeney had the privilege of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, while senior wide receiver Nick Harwell attempted to serve as his catcher. Heeney, a preseason All-American and former high school baseball player, threw his pitch a little wide of home plate, beaning KU’s Big Jay. Despite the errant toss, all of the Jayhawks had a great night at the K.

Kansas will open the 2014 season by hosting Southeast Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m., in Memorial Stadium. Tickets are available by contacting the Kansas Athletics Ticket Office via KUAthletics.com or by calling 800-34-HAWKS.
