Boogaard to Represent Canada at World Championship

EDMONTON, Alberta – Former Kansas women’s basketball player Krysten Boogaard made Canada’s 12-woman roster and will represent her country at the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women as announced Friday morning by Canada Basketball. The tournament runs from Sept. 27 – Oct. 5 in Turkey.

Team Canada will compete in several exhibition games leading up to the World Championship. The first exhibition game is Sept. 15 against Team USA and will air on ESPN2 at 6 p.m. (CT). Boogaard and Team Canada will close out preparation for the World Championship with games against Cuba (Sept. 19) and Spain (Sept. 20) in Logrono, Spain.

The opening game of the World Championship is Sept. 27 against Mozambique. Team Canada is in Group B during the preliminary rounds and also faces host Turkey on Sept. 28. Boogaard and Canada wrap up pool play on Sept. 30 against France. The advancing rounds will take place Oct. 1-5 and all games will be broadcast live on NBAtv.

Boogaard played for the Jayhawks from 2007-11 starting 70 games and appearing in 132 games. She became the second player in KU women’s basketball history to appear in that many games. She scored 1,051 points while at Kansas to join the 1,000-point club. She was also a member of the 2007-08 All-Big 12 Rookie Team. During her KU career, Boogaard averaged 8.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 54 percent from the field. 

After graduation, Boogaard went on to play professionally overseas in Belgium and France before returning to play for Canada Basketball.
