Oubre Named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for Second Time

IRVING, Texas – Kansas men’s basketball freshman Kelly Oubre, Jr., was name the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week in a vote by a media panel, the conference office announced Monday. This is the second time this season the New Orleans guard has earned the honor.
 
Oubre posted 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as the Jayhawks also split its two matchups with nationally-ranked foes.  He had 14 points on 3-of-5 (.600) shooting as KU defeated No. 24 OSU 67-57 on Jan. 13. He had a second double-figure scoring effort in the 86-81 loss at No. 11 Iowa State, finishing with 10 points and eight boards. He shot 40.0 percent from the field on the week with five assists and four steals. Oubre has six double-digit scoring performances in 2014-15 and has recorded eight outings with five or more rebounds. 
 
Kansas has had two or more players named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week each of the last three seasons and six of the last seven years. In 2013-14, KU’s Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid and Tarik Black were named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week a combined seven times.
