LAWRENCE, Kan. –
Kansas volleyball will offer multiple chances for up-and-coming studs to learn from two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year Ray Bechard, his coaching staff and the rest of the Jayhawks this summer as the program released the 2015 camp dates.

For individuals grades sixth through 12 looking to sharpen their game, KU will host position clinics for hitters (June 1) and another focused on defensive specialists, liberos and setters (June 2) inside the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. The Jayhawks will also host two sessions of overnight skills camps, the first from June 3-5 and the second from July 17-19. Team camps will also be offered twice: on July 10-12 and July 13-15.

“It’s great to welcome campers into our gym,” Bechard said. “We really enjoy these camps and the turnout is always very good, which says a lot about the level of commitment to volleyball in our area. Plus, of course, our players love being involved since that’s how so many of them became involved with Jayhawk volleyball.”

Skills Camps
The emphasis of the individual skills camps revolves around teaching and developing the fundamental techniques of volleyball, as well as game strategies. Basic skills are stressed in drills, while team play is incorporated to teach how all the fundamentals fit in the game.

Campers will be evaluated in all skills and receive a camp notebook detailing the camp’s training methods. This camp is open to athletes entering grades 6-12 in the of Fall 2015. Campers will compete in the equivalent of 10 league and tournament matches. Each league team will be assigned a camp staff member to help facilitate all the skills learned throughout the camp.

Campers stay overnight in Naismith Hall, a dorm located on campus just 100 yards from HFAC. Athletes are allowed to pick their own roommates.

Team Camps
The Jayhawk Volleyball Team Camp is designed to provide varsity and junior varsity high school teams with the opportunity to train and compete under the direction and guidance of an outstanding coaching staff.

The daily schedule will include two skills sessions focusing on position training and transition work. Competitive league play will be the emphasis at each evening session. If a high school coach is unable to attend with their team, a veteran coach from our camp staff will be assigned to the team.
