Football Professional Round Up: Week Five

LAWRENCE, Kan. – With professional football in full swing at the conclusion of the fifth week of games in the National Football League Sunday, 12 Jayhawks continue making their mark at the game’s highest level. A weekly recap of how Kansas football players fared in the professional ranks of the National Football League and the Canadian Football League is below.
 
Jon Cornish – Calgary Stampeders (CFL)
Cornish carried the ball 12 times for 72 yards and caught one pass for 12 yards in Calgary’s, 15-11, loss to Edmonton on Oct. 10. Cornish now has accumulated 622 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 115 carries.
 
Chris Harris – Denver Broncos
Harris posted just four tackles, but broke up two passes and sealed the Broncos’ 16-10, victory over Oakland on Oct. 11, with a 74-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
 
Tanner Hawkinson – San Francisco 49ers 
Hawkinson is a member of the 49ers’ practice squad. San Francisco lost a three-point thriller, 30-27, to the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football on Oct. 11.
  
Ben Heeney – Oakland Raiders
Heeney saw time in Oakland’s, 16-10, loss to the Raiders’ AFC West rival, Denver on Oct. 11, but did not record any statistics.
 
Steven Johnson – Tennessee Titans 
Johnson saw time at linebacker, but did not record any statistics in Tennessee’s, 14-13, loss to the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 11.
 
Dexter McDonald – Oakland Raiders
McDonald did not see any action in the Raiders’ 16-10 loss to the Denver Broncos on Oct. 11.
 
Bradley McDougald – Tampa Bay Buccaneers 
McDougald notched three tackles and snatched his second-career interception in Tampa Bay’s, 38-31, victory over Jacksonville on Oct. 11.
 
Toben Opurum – New Orleans Saints
Opurum did not see any action in the Saints’ 39-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 11.
 
JaCorey Shepherd – Philadelphia Eagles 
Shepherd is sidelined on the Eagles injured reserve list after tearing his ACL in the preseason.
 
Kevin Short – Seattle Seahawks
Short is a member of Seattle’s practice squad. Seattle lost, 27-24, in overtime to the Cincinnati Bengals on Oct. 11.  
 
Darrell Stuckey – San Diego Chargers
Stuckey and the Chargers are 2-2 overall heading into a Monday Night Football bout with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 12.
 
Aqib Talib – Denver Broncos 
Talib made two tackles in Denver’s slim, 16-10, win over Oakland on Oct. 11.
