Kansas QB Ryan Willis Named National Freshman of the Week by Athlon Sports

LAWRENCE, Kan. – As a product of a performance that saw him sprinkling his name throughout Kansas’ history books in just his second collegiate start, Jayhawk quarterback Ryan Willis was named Athlon Sports National Freshman of the Week, as announced by the publication on Monday.

Willis fell just two completions short of tying a school record after converting 35 passes in KU’s 30-20 loss to Texas Tech on Oct. 17. Willis is the program’s single-game freshman leader in completions (35), attempts (50), yards (330) and completion percentage (70 percent).

On a minimum of 30 completions, Willis ranks second all-time in the Jayhawk record book after converting 70 percent of his passes against the Red Raiders. Todd Reesing (2006-09) holds the record on an 84.2 percent success rate (32-of-38) against Louisiana Tech in 2008.

After Saturday’s performance, Willis’ ranks in the program’s single-game passing records are as follows:
Passing yards – 22, 330 yards
Completions – T5, 35 completions
Attempts – T9, 50 attempts

On the year, Willis has completed 63-of-104 passes for three touchdowns compared to two interceptions. He has also amassed 588 yards in his four games played.

Willis and the Jayhawks will travel to No. 12/14 Oklahoma State, Saturday, Oct. 24. The Jayhawks and Cowboys will hit the field for a 2:30 p.m., start, with a live broadcast on FOX Sports 1.
