KU Soccer to Host FC Kansas City in Friendly

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer will continue its spring exhibition season Tuesday, March 31 when the Jayhawks welcome FC Kansas City for a 7 p.m., match at Rock Chalk Park. Admission will be free to the public.

The Jayhawks will take on the defending champions of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), FC Kansas City, which is preparing to open its regular season on April 12. KU and FCKC have met each of the last two springs, also in exhibition play, with the pros coming out on top in each match, 4-0 in 2013 and 3-1 a year ago.

The contest will be the second of the spring season for the Jayhawks, who dispatched of the Iowa Hawkeyes, 1-0, in the spring opener last Saturday in Ames, Iowa.

The FC Kansas City roster will feature several familiar faces for Kansas fans as former Jayhawk standouts Caroline Kastor and Kaitlyn Stroud are expected to suit up for the Blues as they continue to tryout for the team’s 2015 roster. Kastor is the No. 2 goal-scorer in Kansas history and a two-time All-Big 12 Second Team selection in 2012 and 2013. Stroud concluded her KU career last fall as one of the program’s all-time top goalkeepers. She holds the second-lowest goals-against average in Kansas history.

Following the KU-FCKC match, players from both teams will be available for autographs and pictures. Fans will also have the opportunity to have their picture taken with the Blues’ 2014 NWSL Championship trophy.
