Brannen Greene Has Successful Hip Surgery

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas sophomore guard Brannen Greene had successful surgery Thursday morning to repair a torn labrum in his hip, KU head coach Bill Self said. The procedure was done in Nashville, Tennessee.

“Brannen, his father (Jeffrey) and Bill Cowgill (KU Associate Director of Sports Medicine) traveled to Nashville this week to have hip surgery performed by Dr. (J.W. Thomas) Byrd, one of the most experienced hip surgeons in the United States,” Self said. “Surgery went very well. Everything went as planned.”

Due to extensive rehabilitation, Self said Greene will not participate in the 2015 World University Games, July 3-14, in Gwangju, Korea, where KU will be representing the USA as the national team in the event.

“The rehab will be somewhat significant because he’ll be on crutches for eight weeks and probably not return to the basketball court for approximately five months,” Self said. “It should not impact practice as he should be full speed by the time we start practicing.”

Greene started two of 35 games played for Kansas in 2014-15 and averaged 5.7 points per game. The Juliette, Georgia, native was third on the KU team with 40 three-point field goals made as he shot 40.4 percent from beyond the arc his sophomore campaign. Greene had nine games of 10 or more points this past season, including a career-high 19 points, including 5-of-5 from three-point range, in KU’s 75-70 win at Georgetown on Dec. 10, 2014.
