Stigler Named a Semifinalist for ‘The Bowerman’ Award

NEW ORLEANS – Kansas senior Michael Stigler was named a semifinalist for ‘The Bowerman’ award, it was announced Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Stigler is one of 10 student-athletes who are now eligible to win collegiate track and field’s highest honor and is the first Jayhawk in the award’s seven-year history to earn a spot on the semifinalist list.

Stigler, a native of Canyon, Texas, was undefeated in his 10 400-meter hurdle races during the 2015 campaign. At the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 12, he claimed his first national title in the event and tallied First Team All-America honors for the fourth-consecutive year. Stigler posted a personal best and school record at the Texas Relays on March 27, clocking in at 48.44. The performance was the fastest time by a collegian, not only in 2015, but the best in nearly four years. The time ranked the KU senior No. 1 on the yearly world rankings for six-straight weeks. Stigler also won his fourth-consecutive Big 12 Conference title in the event.

Stigler will now be eligible to be selected as one of three finalists, who will be announced on July 8. The winner of collegiate track & field’s highest individual honor will be announced December 18 at the annual U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Convention.
