Wide Receiver Shakiem Barbel Granted Additional Season by NCAA

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football wide receiver Shakiem Barbel has been officially granted an additional season of competition by the NCAA. With this approval, Barbel is cleared to participate for the Jayhawks in the 2016 season. The Fresno, California, native, played in all 12 games for the Jayhawks in 2015. He hauled in 15 receptions for 130 yards and one touchdown.
 
“We are excited to have Shakiem back for another year,” said Kansas head coach David Beaty. “He is a great teammate and a guy with some quality experience. It will be valuable to our program to have him in our locker room and back out on the field with us.”

Beaty, Barbel and the Jayhawks will open up spring practice on Sunday, March 6 and the 15-practice schedule includes the 1 p.m., spring game on Saturday, April 9. The Jayhawks will spread out their spring practice dates over a five-week period spanning time in both March and April. KU’s annual spring game is scheduled for Saturday, April 9, with a 1 p.m., kickoff in Memorial Stadium. In addition, to the spring game, the fourth-annual Train Like a Jayhawk Kid’s Clinic is also scheduled for April 9. More information on the Train Like a Jayhawk Kid’s Clinic and all of the events surrounding the annual spring game, including times, locations and parking information, will be provided at a later date.
