Final Standings

TRINITY, Texas – With the help of three Jayhawks scoring below par, the Kansas men’s golf team moved up two spots on Sunday to finish in a two-way tie for sixth-place at the Big 12 Championship. Texas came out on top of the 10-team field, winning the event by a 26-stroke margin with an overall score of 1,138 (-14).

Stratton Nolen of Oklahoma State walked off the course with the individual title, winning the event by one-stroke with a score of 282 (-6). The Jayhawks were just one of three teams to shoot under par on the day, helping them round off their scores of 307-309-289-280 to a four-round total of 1,185 (+33) strokes. Kansas tied Kansas State for sixth in the 10-team field.

“We played well today and I’m happy for the guys, as they showed some fight today,” Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said. “Connor (Peck) had a very good tournament and Dan (Hudson) was solid as well. Chase (Hanna) had a great round of golf today after struggling the first day.”

Leading the way for Kansas was Peck, who completed the best performance at the Big 12 Championship of his career. Despite his struggles on the first day, the senior managed to bounce back in rounds three and four to finish the event with scores of 77-77-67-69–290 (+2). This gave him his team-leading sixth top-10 placing of the season, where he finished in sole possession of 10th. Finishing in the top-10, Peck was named to the Big 12 All-Tournament team for the first time in his career and the first time for a Jayhawk since Chris Gilbert in 2013.

Behind Peck on the Kansas leaderboard was Hanna, who climbed the leaderboard after every round. The six birdies he fired on Sunday helped him score a 67 (-5), giving him a tie for the lowest round of the day. Hanna improved his score after every day, giving him a four-round total of 298 (+10) and a four-way tie for 21st.

After recording a 71 (-1) in the final round, Hudson found himself as one of the four players to tie with Hanna for 21st place. Hudson’s four rounds totaled 298 (+10), which is the same score he carded last year at the Big 12 Championship.

Senior Ben Welle started the fourth round on a strong note, firing off two birdies on his first two holes, which helped pace him for a 73 (+1) on the day. By improving his score in every round, Welle was able to walk off the course with a total of 305 (+17) strokes, giving him a tie for 40th.

Rounding off the group of Jayhawks who representing KU at the Big 12 Championship was freshman Charlie Hillier. In his first conference championship of his career, Hillier finished with scores of 74-79-77-79–309 (+21) and placing 44th.

Up next for Kansas, the team will await its NCAA Regional destiny, following the selection show, which takes place May 5 at 7:30 a.m. CT on the Golf Channel.
