Kawinpakorn Named to All-Big 12 Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas senior women’s golfer Yupaporn Kawinpakorn was named to the 2016 All-Big 12 Team, the conference office announced Wednesday. The team is comprised of the top-10 Big 12 golfers based on GolfStat rankings. Kawinpakorn ranks 20th nationally, second in the Big 12 and two spots behind 18th-ranked Gabby Barker of Texas Tech.

This marks Kawinpakorn’s second career All-Big 12 honor, having previously been named to the 2013-14 All-Big 12 Team. Kawinpakorn’s selection is the fifth time in Kansas in history that a Jayhawk is selected to the All-Big 12 Team. Amanda Costner (2004-07) was named in back-to-back years (2006 and 2007), while Emily Powers (2007-10) was selected in 2008.

A four-time All-Big 12 Tournament Team member and three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team member, Kawinpakorn won five individual titles in 2015-16, a KU single-season record. She earned her titles at the Schooner Classic (9/19-21), Chip-N Club Invitational (10/5-6), Palmetto Intercollegiate (10/25-27), DAC/SMU Invitational (4/1-2) and the Red Raider Invitational (4/8-9). On her way to her five victories, Kawinpakorn set school records for 18 (63) and 54-hole (209) scores. Having broken the school’s single-season stroke average record every year at KU, Kawinpakorn is on pace to do so again with her 71.3 average.

Joining Kawinpakorn on the All-Big 12 First Team are Barker, Laura Lonardi of Baylor, Maddie McCrary, Linnea Johansson, Chih-Min Chen and Kenzie Neisen of Oklahoma State, Sophia Schubert of Texas and Chayani Wangmahapron and Celia Barquin Arozamen of Iowa State.

Kawinpakorn will be celebrating her award with teammate Pornvipa Sakdee at the Shoal Creek Club Country Club in Shoal Creek, Alabama. The pair will compete as individuals at the NCAA Regional from May 5-7. Their progress toward qualification for Nationals can be followed live at GolfStat.com.
