Marriott named head cheerleading coach for Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Lyndsay Marriott, a former University of Kansas cheerleader and assistant coach, has been promoted to cheerleading head coach, as announced proudly by Spirit Squad Coordinator Cat Jarzemkoski Thursday.

Marriott begins her head coaching position at KU after many years of involvement with the program. A member of the Kansas cheerleading squad from 2004-08, Marriott cheered the KU football team to an Orange Bowl victory in Miami, Florida and the men’s basketball team to its NCAA National Championship in San Antonio, Texas during her final season on the sidelines.

Originally from Springfield, Missouri, Marriott spent her childhood in the Ozark Mountain Gymnastics facility, where she learned to love the sport and competed until the age of 12. She began cheerleading in junior high and continued to cheer for both Springfield Catholic High School and the Missouri Elite All-Star program.

After earning a degree in sport management with a minor in business from the University of Kansas, Marriott went on to become a nurse and graduated with honors from Avila University in 2012. She currently works at the University of Kansas Hospital as a Nurse Coordinator for the Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis Center.

An assistant coach for KU cheerleading since 2013, Marriott had a part in leading the team to a fourth-place finish in Division IA UCA Nationals in Orlando, Florida in 2015. As a program alumna, she is thrilled to have the opportunity to involve other alumni in the growth of KU cheerleading while also offering an exciting, tradition-rich program with endless opportunities for future team members.

Marriott currently resides in Mission, Kansas with her husband, Bryan, and their golden retriever, Elly.
