Jayhawks open 2018 spring practice

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas football hit the practice fields Wednesday afternoon, for the first of its 15 allotted spring sessions. Head coach David Beaty welcomed 60 returning letter winners, including 18 starters from the 2017 campaign, along with 10 members of the 2018 signing class who are already on campus, as the 2018 spring season commenced.

The Jayhawks spent just over two hours on the practice fields, wearing helmets only. The first session of spring had a heavy emphasis on fundamentals, both through individual drills and position group work. Additionally, KU was able to spend a good amount of practice working on special teams fundamentals, before finishing it off with a 7-on-7 period and a team period.

Per NCAA rules, KU will hold a total of 15 practices during the spring season. As a safety precaution, in two of the practice sessions players will be limited to helmets only. Additionally, in a third session players are only allowed to dress out in helmets and shoulder pads, as they are required to go through an acclimatization period. The remaining 12 practice sessions, players are able to wear full pads and participate in live contact drills for a portion of practice.

The Jayhawks will spread out their spring practice dates over a four-week period, concluding with their annual spring game, which will be held on Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m., in Memorial Stadium.

The sixth-annual Train Like a Jayhawk Kid’s Clinic is also Saturday, April 28. More information on the Train Like a Jayhawk Kid’s Clinic and all of the events surrounding the annual spring game, including times, locations and parking information, will be provided at a later date.

Kansas football season tickets are available now starting as low as $125 for all six games at Memorial Stadium this fall.

Loyalty pricing is available to 2017 season ticket holders and offers up to a $50 per season ticket savings. Fans who renew by April 28 will save an additional $35 with all handling fees being waived. Season tickets for all fans will include a complimentary seatback.
