Jayhawks Visit Dolphin Stadium On Eve Of FedEx Orange Bowl

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>MIAMI, Fla. – The Kansas Jayhawks football team finally got its first chance to see the field where it will play in the FedEx Orange Bowl. Mark Mangino and the team made its initial visit to Dolphin Stadium on Wednesday in preparation for Thursday’s game against Virginia Tech.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The team was able to get dressed in the locker room it will use on Thursday. The players dressed in their blue uniforms for a team photo before returning to the hotel for rest.

Earlier in the day, Mangino and 20 players participated in a luncheon, which featured both teams and their head coaches. Questions were directed to Mangino, Brandon McAnderson and James McClinton by the FOX TV announcers in front of a large crowd at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel.

Eighth-ranked Kansas will meet third-ranked Virginia Tech in the game, which will kickoff at 7:20 p.m. Central on Thursday.

Orange Bowl Notable — Virginia Tech is the home team as the Atlantic Coast Conference Champion. The Hokies chose to wear white uniforms in the game, so the Jayhawks will sport their blue jerseys on Thursday… Jason Swanson owns the KU record for passing yards in a bowl game with 307 against Houston in the 2005 Fort Worth Bowl… Laverne Smith owns the KU record for rushing yards in a bowl game as he gained 118 in the 1975 Sun Bowl vs. Pittsburgh… KU seniors playing their final game as a Jayhawk include DL Marcus Anderson, OL Rameses Arceo, TE Derek Fine, WR Jeff Foster, WR Marcus Henry, TE Marc Jones, RB Brandon McAnderson, DT James McClinton, S Sadiq Muhammed, OT Cesar Rodriguez, S Brian Seymour, P Kyle Tucker, PK Scott Webb.
