Jan. 2, 2013

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas head football coach Charlie Weis announced that redshirt freshman offensive lineman Luke Luhrsen has decided to end his football playing career. At this time, Luhrsen intends to stay at Kansas while pursuing a degree in marketing.

“After sitting down with Luke he informed me he has decided to discontinue playing football to concentrate solely on academics,” said Weis. “Luke was a valuable asset to our team and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Luhrsen, a native of Wheaton, Ill., sat out the 2011 season, while redshirting. He saw action in three games in 2012, hitting the field at both guard positions at Texas Tech, Iowa State and West Virginia.

“I have decided to give up football to concentrate on my academics,” said Luhrsen. “I appreciate the Jayhawk community, as well as my teammates and coaches, for all of the support I have received during my time with the program. It has been an unforgettable experience and an incredible opportunity. I will continue to support the program and I will always be proud to be a Jayhawk.”
