010411aaa_536_4442338.jpegFun was the name of the game Tuesday evening as the Kansas women’s basketball team welcomed members of the Douglas County Special Olympics to Allen Fieldhouse for a clinic. Jayhawk head coach Bonnie Henrickson along with the KU players hosted the two hour session with the local residents.

The clinic opened with an introduction from Henrickson followed by members of the 2010-11 KU women’s basketball team splitting the group up into four teams. Each team was hosted by members of the Jayhawk squad.

After a group stretch, the teams ran through some station drills, working on basketball skills such as form shooting, lay ups, defensive stances, rebounding and passing. The teams then suited up for two rounds of games. Members of the KU team participated in the games with their respective teams for the day.

Following a tour of the KU facilities, Henrickson and her players participated in an autograph and photo session with the DouglasCounty group of athletes, with each athlete receiving an autographed basketball and poster to take home.

The Jayhawks will open Big 12 Conference play on Saturday, Jan. 8, when they play host to Texas Tech, who also enters the game with a 13-1 mark. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m., in Allen Fieldhouse.
