Kansas Tennis Lands Two Duos in ITA Preseason Top 50

Jan. 4, 2012

LAWRENCE, Kan.—Two doubles tandems represented the University of Kansas women’s tennis team in the Campbell/ITA Preseason Rankings, released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Wednesday. Senior Ekaterina Morozova and sophomore Dylan Windom are ranked No. 29, while junior Monica Pezzotti and sophomore Paulina Los grabbed the No. 42 spot.

“It’s a great way to start off the new year, having two teams ranked in the Top 50,” Kansas head coach Amy Hall-Holt said. “I was very happy with their performances over the fall season. I’m excited for Paulina and Monica because they did well over the fall and they deserve to be praised for their hard work. After what Kate and Dylan did at the All-American Championships, they proved that they can compete with top-ranked players. It’s a great way to begin the season as we get ready to head to Hawaii.”

This fall, Morozova and Windom advanced to the third round of the ITA Regionals, defeating a duo from Big 12 rival Missouri, 8-4, in the second round. At the 2011 ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Championships, the duo cruised to the quarterfinals of the main draw before being eliminated. Morozova and Windom, ranked No. 33 in the last ITA poll, became the first Kansas tennis athletes selected straight to the main draw of the All-American Championships since 1990.

Pezzotti and Los were crowned champions of their doubles draw at the second KU Invitational last fall. The team amassed a 10-1 record during the 2011 fall season and ended the fall campaign on a seven-match winning streak.

The Jayhawks will return to action when they travel to Honolulu for the Hawaii Invitational Jan. 12-14. Check back with www.kuathletics.com for complete results from the three-day tournament.
