LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The ninth-ranked Baylor Lady Bears (15-1, 2-0 Big 12) defeated the University of Kansas (5-8, 0-2 Big 12), 71-64, Saturday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse. Freshman LaChelda Jacobs led a spirited effort by the Jayhawks with 18 points and five rebounds while senior Sharita Smith added a spark off the bench with eight points.

Freshman Kelly Kohn also scored in double figures for KU. She finished 6-of-17 from the field for 14 points and added three assists and three rebounds. Fellow rookie Porscha Weddington grabbed six rebounds to go along with her four points and also recorded a season-high four blocks. Junior Taylor McIntosh played 31 minutes, finishing with eight points and three rebounds.

Kansas’ bench outscored Baylor’s, 18-15, in the defeat. The Jayhawks shot 43 percent from the field while the Lady Bears managed a 47 percent clip. The Jayhawks trailed 34-26 at halftime behind seven points from Kohn and six from McIntosh.

Bernice Mosby led Baylor with 21 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in 40 minutes of action.

The Jayhawks return to action on Jan. 10 when they travel to Stillwater, Okla., to play Oklahoma State. The game is slated to start at 6 p.m.
