Swank Leads Kansas Swimming Past No. 22 LSU in Tri-Dual

MIAMI, Fla.—

Sophomore Rebecca Swank placed first in two events to lead the University of Kansas swimming and diving team to victory against no. 22 Louisiana State University (124-92), American University (159-48) and Florida International University (151-67) at Bay Vista Aquatics Complex on Thursday. Kansas is now 5-4 in dual competition.

“Today was a big win for our program,” Kansas head coach Clark Campbell said. “Everyone contributed and it was a good way to conclude our time in Florida.”

Swank, a sophomore from Wichita, Kan., won both the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.36) and the 1000-yard freestyle (10:12.06). Senior Iuliia Kuzhil took first in the 100-yard backstroke (57.56) and swam the first leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that won with a time of 1:45.31. Other Kansas winners included junior Shannon Garlie, who won the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.74), and Monica Johannessen, who placed first in the 100-yard freestyle (52.18).

On the diving side, sophomore Taylor Ilten took second in the one-meter dive with a score of 222.37.
