LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Led by a career-high 24 points and 12 rebounds from freshman Brandon Rush, the University of Kansas downed No. 19 Kentucky, 73-46, Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse. KU improves its record to 9-4 while winning its sixth straight game. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Kansas controlled the game from the opening tip and never trailed during the contest. The Jayhawks defense held Kentucky (10-4) to 24 percent shooting from the field and 3-of-25 from behind the 3-point arc. KU cruised to a 41-19 lead at halftime and led by as many as 32 points in the second stanza.

Sophomore guard Russell Robinson tallied a season-high 12 points while C.J. Giles posted 10 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Mario Chalmers scored six points and dished out five assists.

Sophomore Sasha Kaun and freshman Julian Wright scored eight and six points, respectively, while both pulled down five boards. Wright also had two of KU’s eight blocks and three of the Jayhawks’ 14 assists.

Kansas will open Big 12 play next Wednesday against Colorado in Boulder, Colo. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m. central time.
