Kansas' Darnell Jackson Named Phillips 66 co-Big 12 Player of the Week

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>IRVING, Texas – Kansas senior forward Darnell Jackson has been named the Phillips 66 co-Big 12 Player of the Week along with Texas sophomore D.J. Augustin, the league office announced Monday. Texas Tech freshman John Roberson was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week as the honors are voted on by a media panel which regularly covers the league.
Jackson scored a career-high 25 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds in No. 3 Kansas’ 85-60 win at BostonCollege Saturday. The Oklahoma City, Okla., native was 9-of-13 (69.2 percent) from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the victory. Jackson has scored 20 or more points in back-to-back games as he had 20 points against Yale on Dec. 29. He leads the Big 12 in field goal percentage and leads KU in rebounds with a 6.7 average.
Augustin averaged 25 points in two Texas wins against TCU and Saint Mary’s last week. Included was a 30-point effort in the Longhorns’ 81-62 win versus Saint Mary’s Saturday. Roberson averaged 18.5 points in Red Raiders’ victories against Lamar and UTEP.
This is the first time Jackson has received the Phillips Big 12 Player of the Week honor and the first time a Jayhawk has won the accolade in 2007-08.
At 14-0, Kansas is one of six teams in NCAA Division I to remain undefeated. The Jayhawks close out non-conference play Tuesday when they host Loyola (Md.), at 7 p.m. in Allen Fieldhouse. KU opens Big 12 play at Nebraska Saturday at 8 p.m.
