KU's Hawkinson Named To FWAA Freshman All-America Football Team

Jan. 7, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas offensive tackle Tanner Hawkinson was named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America Team it was announced Thursday.

Hawkinson, a 6-6, 285-pound redshirt freshman from McPherson, Kan., spent the 2009 season as the Jayhawks’ starting left tackle. He started all 12 games at the position.

Hawkinson came to KU in 2008 as a tight end and spent most of his redshirt season at that position. He was moved to the defensive line later that year, but found a home on the offensive line last spring.

His rapid development allowed him to start at the critical left tackle position in his first collegiate game this year.

This is the fourth Freshman All-America team Hawkinson has been selected to this postseason. He was named first team by The Sporting News and CollegeFootballNews.com and second team by Phil Steele.

In addition Hawkinson was tabbed to the All-Big 12 Honorable Mention team by the league coaches
