Kansas Swimming Travels to Los Angeles for Weekend Meets

LOS ANGELES – Kansas swimming and diving (2-3) returns to the water in Los Angeles as they prepare to take on UCLA and Fresno State at Spieker Aquatics Center Friday. KU will also compete against Loyola Marymount and UC San Diego Saturday. The Jayhawks will face UCLA and Fresno State at 1 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday, and Loyola Marymount and UC San Diego at 11 a.m. Pacific Time on Saturday.

Kansas’ last competition was in Charlottesville, Va. at the UVA Invitational from Dec. 3-5, where the Jayhawks placed second (799 points) after three days of action. Individually, junior Iuliia Kuzhil competed in the 200-yard backstroke and earned second place with a time of 1:58.69. She also recorded a final time of 54.84 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke, placing second in that event.

Kansas will be looking to Kuzhil to compete well against host team UCLA. The Bruins are 3-1 (2-1 Pac-10) on the season with wins against Oregon State, Arizona State and UC Santa Barbara, while Fresno State is 1-3 with a win over Fresno Pacific this season.

Loyola Marymount last competed in a double-dual meet on Dec. 19, when they defeated Cal Baptist 166-121, and Cal State Bakersfield 180.5-112.5.

UC San Diego’s last action was a dual meet, when they defeated Truman State 184.5-77.5. The Tritons claimed 13-of-14 events in that meet.
