The listing of seventh is the second-best final ranking for the school since the Jayhawks finished the 1968 season ranked sixth by the United Press International and seventh by the AP.

The last time KU was listed in the final rankings was in 1995 when the AP ranked the Jayhawks ninth and the UPI and CNN/USA Today poll had KU 10th.

Kansas is the lone one-loss team in the Bowl Championship Series sub-division. The AP poll lists LSU (12-2), Georgia (11-2), USC (11-2), Missouri (12-2), OhioState (11-2), and West Virginia (11-2) ahead of the Jayhawks.

The USA Today/Coaches Poll has LSU first, followed by USC, Georgia, Ohio State, Missouri and West Virginia before Kansas.

Earlier this season, Kansas reached its highest national ranking in school history as the Jayhawks were listed second by all four major polls on Nov. 18. However, a loss to Missouri dropped the Jayhawks to fifth in the BCS and USA Today, sixth in the Harris Interactive and seventh in the AP poll the next week. Kansas was listed eighth by all four polls after the regular season.
