Kansas Rowing to Move to Wyandotte County Lake Park Until 2011 Due to Bridge Construction on Kansas River

Jan. 8, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas rowing team will move its regattas to Wyandotte County Lake Park for the next three years. Kansas Athletics has reached an agreement with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kan., the operators of the lake, on a plan for the Jayhawks to hold regattas from 2009-11 at the 407-acre lake.

Kansas Athletics made the move because of the bridge construction taking place on the Kansas River. The Jayhawks will still practice on the Kansas River, but will move for competitions.

Kansas Rowing is no stranger to Wyandotte County Lake Park. KU hosted the 2007 Big 12 Invitational at the venue on May 27, 2007.

KU will host three home events at Wyandotte County Lake Park this spring. The first will be the Kansas-Texas Regatta on Saturday, April 4. KU will also host the Kansas Cup between Kansas and Kansas State on Saturday, April 11, and the 2009 Big 12 Invitational on Saturday, May 2.
