Track and Field Opens 2008 at Arkansas Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – After a one month hiatus, the University of Kansas track and field teams will welcome in the New Year with a trip to Fayetteville, Ark. The 11th-ranked men and the 27th-ranked women will compete at the RandalTysonTrackCenter on Friday at the Arkansas Invitational. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The Jayhawks have already seen competition this year. At the KSU All-Comers meet on Dec. 8, sophomore Jordan Scott set a meet record en route to winning the pole vault while senior Julius Jiles won the 60-meter dash and sophomore Lauren Bonds was the first of three Jayhawks to cross the finish line in the 3,000-meter run.

The 30-team field at the invitational will include two men’s teams in the top-10 of the USTFCCCA preseason rankings in 10th-ranked Baylor and the host ninth-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks. Joining the women in the rankings are 17th-ranked Mississippi and 29th-ranked TCU along with the ninth-ranked Lady Razorbacks.

The field events are set to begin with the men’s shot put at noon while the first track event, the women’s mile, is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. central standard time. The final event is the men’s 1,600-meter relay at 8 p.m. All results can be found shortly after the conclusion of the day’s events at www.kuathletics.com or at www.hogwired.com.
