KU'S Gockel Competing In Winter Golf Tournament

SEBRING, Fla. – Kansas junior golfer Meghan Gockel is competing in the Harder Hall Women’s Invitational in Sebring, Fla. Gockel is tied for 26th place midway through the event, which will conclude this weekend.

The Dallas, Texas native fired rounds of 76 and 79 to open the tournament. Her 155 total placed her 16 shots off the pace set by Amelia Lewis, who registered rounds of 71 and 68 en route to a 139 two-round total.

Recent winners of the tournament include current LPGA standouts Christie Kerr (1995), Natalie Gulbis (2001) and Morgan Pressel (2005).

Last year Gockel shot a four-round total of 319 at this event. She shot a pair of 78s in the first two rounds before netting an 80 in the third round and an 83 in the final round. This past fall, Gockel was fifth on the team with a scoring average of 80 strokes per round. She and her Jayhawk teammates will resume team play at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., Feb. 16-17.
