KU Women Visit Children's Mercy Hospital

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After playing its first three Big 12 Conference games over a span of seven days, the Kansas women’s basketball team spent its eighth day making some smiles and giving some hugs at the Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City Wednesday afternoon.

“Our players are very grateful, they understand the big picture and they understand how grateful they are,” head coach Bonnie Henrickson said. “When you do something like this, it goes to a whole other level, especially when it is young children. To see the smiles on their faces and to be able to interact and just color with them and smile with them, that’s when it goes to another level of being with these kids.”

Henrickson, the Jayhawks and Baby Jay interacted and talked with the kids, while also coloring, shooting baskets, signing autographs and posing for pictures.

“I love working with kids,” said sophomore Asia Boyd. “I have a lot of small siblings at home, so anything like this is fun for me. Events like these are ones I look forward to, plus it kind of goes along with my major (applied behavioral sciences and childhood development) so it’s a great experience on a lot of levels.”

The No. 17/19-ranked Jayhawks will be back in action Sunday, when Kansas hosts No. 1-ranked Baylor at Allen Fieldhouse at 1:30 p.m.
