<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>LAWRENCE, Kan. – University of Kansas freshman Ksenia Bukina has been ranked 79th in the nation in the initial Fila Collegiate Tennis Singles Rankings, administered by the ITA. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
The Obninsk, Russia native was also tabbed as the No. 14 singles player in the Central Region by the ITA in December.
“This is not only a great way for Ksenia to start her season, but a great way for the team to start as well,” head coach Amy Hall-Holt said. “It is especially impressive considering she is just a freshman and has not had that much collegiate experience yet.”
Bukina had a solid fall season for Kansas, posting a 7-6 singles record and defeating 30th ranked and top-seeded Maja Kovacek of New Mexico in the ITA Central Regionals.
Kansas will open its season on Jan. 22 with matches against both BallState and Indiana in Bloomington.
