Kansas (5-10, 0-3 Big 12) begins a three-game home stand against Nebraska (13-3, 1-1 Big 12) on Saturday, Jan. 10. The Jayhawks and Cornhuskers will tip-off at 7 p.m. At halftime, one lucky fan will have a chance to win $25,000.

-Kelly Kohn’s 11.1 points per contest rank second among Big 12 Freshman.

-KU’s freshman class has scored 533 of the Jayhawks 857 points this season (62 percent).

NOTING NEBRASKA

The Cornhuskers did not have a mid-week game after opening the conference season with its first ever victory over Texas, followed by a narrow loss to No. 8 Oklahoma … The loss to the Sooners snapped Nebraska’s seven-game winning streak … The Huskers are receiving votes in both polls … Nebraska is led by Kansas City, Mo. native Kiera Hardy … The 5-6 guard is averaging 16.1 points per contest while dishing out a team-best 49 assists … Sophomore forward Kelsey Griffin is the reigning co-Big 12 Player of the Week after averaging 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in NU’s first two conference games … Griffin is tied with Harding for the team lead in scoring while pulling down a team-best 8.4 boards … The Cornhuskers are 5-1 on the road this season … Head coach Connie Yori is in her fifth season at Nebraska after coaching for 10 seasons at Creighton University.

NOTING KANSAS

The Jayhawks look to snap a six-game losing streak Saturday against the Cornhuskers … Senior Shaquina Mosley tied a career high with 12 points against Oklahoma State … Freshman LaChelda Jacobs has poured in 18 points in her last two home games … Freshman Kelly Kohn has led the Jayhawks in scoring a team-high five times this year … Kohn leads KU in points, steals, assists and 3-pointers made … Kohn has made 30 of KU’s 62 3-point field goals on the season … Despite losing both games to Nebraska last season, KU still holds a 23-6 edge against the Cornhuskers in Lawrence … KU is 5-2 this year when leading at halftime.

TOUGH LOSSES, EVEN TOUGHER OPPONENTS

The Jayhawks strength of schedule according to CollegeRPI.com is 17th out of 335 Division I teams. Of KU’s ten losses, eight have been against teams with an RPI of 51 or better. The Jayhawks SOS is the strongest in the Big 12.

KU’S LAST OUTING

OklahomaState (13-2, 1-1 Big 12) defeated Kansas (5-10, 0-3 Big 12), 68-54 Wednesday night in Stillwater, Okla.

The game started with both teams trading 6-0 runs. The Cowgirls countered the Jayhawks’ run with a 7-0 spurt, taking a 13-6 lead. OSU led by as many as 14 points in the first stanza before Kansas cut the lead to 11 before halftime. OSU shot 46 percent in the first half compared to KU’s 30 percent clip. Kansas shot 45 percent in the second half.

Kansas battled back to cut OSU’s lead to just five points with 3:22 remaining in the contest but were out-scored 12-3 down the stretch. The Cowgirls were led by freshman guard Andrea Riley with 18 points including 10-of-14 from the free throw line.

Senior Shaquina Mosley tied a career-high with 12 points. Freshman Kelly Kohn also tallied 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting. Norman, Okla., native Sade Morris tallied eight first half points and finished with 11.
