Jayhawks to Compete at Arkansas Invite

The University of Kansas track and field teams will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. to compete in the Arkansas Invitational this Friday. The event will be held at the Randal Tyson Track center, which will also serve as the host for the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

Joining the Jayhawks at the invite will be Arkansas and Ole Miss, plus Big 12 foes Texas A&M and Oklahoma.

“We are looking forward to having a very good meet. We have athletes that are just coming back from Christmas break, so hopefully they are coming back in very good shape,” Kansas head coach Stanley Redwine said.

“We will see what our progression is compared to the other schools. The University of Arkansas hosts very good meets. This one will be no exception. We are excited about having quality competition. We also look forward to going into Fayetteville and competing our best,” Redwine added.

The Arkansas Invitational marks the second indoor meet of the 2004-05 season for Kansas. The Jayhawks traveled to the K-State All-Comers Meet on December 11 and scored six first place finishes.

Sophomore Mark Gdowski won the 600-yard run in a time of 1:13.87, while fellow sophomore Mike Rost took first place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.10, edging out teammate Keith Schmerer, who finished second in a time of 2:00.46. On the women’s side KU scored four first place finishes. The Jayhawks took the top three spots in the 60-meter hurdles with sophomore Brooklyn Hann taking the top spot in a time of 8.60.
