In his first game since being named Phillips 66 Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, freshman guard Brandon Rush was held scoreless in the first half but found his stroke in the second to finish with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists.

After only being up two at halftime, the Jayhawks used a 20-9 run in the second half to pull away for the victory. The Buffs got within seven with 2:39 left in the game, but two free throws from Rush and a layup from senior Christian Moody sealed the victory for KU.

The Jayhawks were also aided by their considerable rebounding margin. KU outrebounded Colorado 50-28, led by Moody and sophomore Darnell Jackson who finished with seven each. No Colorado player had more than five. Moody also added a team-high 18 points on the night.

Next up for the Jayhawks is a clash with in-state rival Kansas State on Saturday, Jan. 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN Regional.
