Jan. 12, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas senior pole vaulter, Jordan Scott, was selected as the first male Big 12 Athlete of the Week for the 2010 indoor campaign, it was announced Tuesday by the league office. This marks the third-career Big 12 weekly honor for Scott.

The Watkinsville, Ga., native hit an NCAA provisional qualifying standard when he cleared 5.20 meters (17-00.25 ft.) at the Bill Easton Classic on Friday, Jan. 8 in Lawrence, Kan. Scott, who was competing in his first event of the 2010 season, surpassed all other vaulters at the meet by at least one foot. His mark is also currently leading the Big 12, and ranks third in the nation as of Jan. 12.

Scott is the three-time defending Big 12 Champion in the pole vault, with the most recent title coming in 2009, when he cleared a career-best 5.55 meters (18-02.50 ft.). He is also a two-time indoor All-American, after having finished ninth in 2008 and third in 2009 at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Last year, Scott finished among the top three in all eight of the events in which he competed, including five individual victories. The senior All-American will look to add another crown to his repertoire on Friday, when the Jayhawks take on border-rival Missouri in the KU vs. MU Dual in Columbia, Mo.
