Jan. 13, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. – John Fox, who was an assistant football coach at Kansas in 1983, was named the head coach of the Denver Broncos Thursday. Fox becomes the 14th head coach in Denver’s history.

Fox served as the defensive backs coach at Kansas during the 1983 season working under then-head coach Mike Gottfried. The Jayhawks were 4-6-1 that season, but had wins against then No. 10 USC and No. 19 Missouri.

Fox’s year in Kansas marked his sixth coaching stop. He left KU for Iowa State and eventually to the NFL where he later was the head coach of Carolina for nine years before taking the Denver job.
