LAWRENCE, Kan. – All-American Brittney Griner scored 33 points as top-ranked Baylor used a big first half to defeat Kansas, 82-60, in front of a season-high 6,923 fans Sunday at Allen Fieldhouse.

Baylor (14-1, 4-0 Big 12) surged to a 31-13 lead with 8:45 left in the first half and held off multiple attempts by No. 17 Kansas (11-4, 2-2 Big 12) to come back and avoid its second consecutive loss to a ranked opponent. No. 21 Oklahoma State beat the Jayhawks, 76-59, Tuesday in Stillwater, Okla.

Junior guard CeCe Harper came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points for the Jayhawks, more than doubling her previous best of 10 against a team that held a 40-game win streak early in the season. Harper joined four other Jayhawks (seniors Carolyn Davis, Angel Goodrich, Monica Engelman and sophomore Chelsea Gardner) who have scored 20 points in a game during their KU careers.

Only four other Baylor opponents have scored 60 points or more this season. Two of those teams were ranked in the top five nationally.

The Jayhawks were competitive early–Baylor led by one in the opening five minutes of the game–but it wasn’t long until Griner took over and finished the half with 22 points. A 20-6 run over the next 4:51 put the Bears on top, 26-11, nabbing a lead that wouldn’t be legitimately threatened for the rest of the afternoon.

That lead was cut to 10 in the final four minutes of the first half, but Baylor charged out of the halftime locker room with a 6-0 run to extend its advantage to 24 points with 17:19 to play.

Odyssey Sims and Brooklyn Pope rounded-out the three Baylor players in double-figure scoring. Sims scored 14 points, while Pope added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Bears.

Senior All-America candidate Angel Goodrich scored 16 points, while fellow senior Carolyn Davis tacked-on 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Jayhawks.

Kansas will return to action Saturday when the Jayhawks travel to Texas Tech for a 7 p.m. tip-off in the United Spirit Arena. Kansas will then host a three-game homestand against Texas (Jan. 23), Oklahoma State (Jan. 26) and Iowa State (Jan. 30).
