Kansas Athletics to Raise Money for Haiti Relief

Jan. 15, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas Athletics is working with the Douglas County Chapter of the American Red Cross to raise money for the people of earthquake-stricken Haiti.

Donations will be accepted at Allen Fieldhouse at this weekend’s men’s and women’s basketball games. Donations are also being taken online at kuathletics.com between now and noon on Wednesday, January 20. Every dollar raised will be sent to the Douglas County Chapter of the American Red Cross and directed to the Haiti Relief Fund.

Kansas Athletics, Bill and Cindy Self, and Bonnie Henrickson will each match a portion of the funds raised.

“Our hearts have been touched by the heartbreaking images and stories coming out of Haiti,” KU Athletics Director Lew Perkins said. “The Red Cross has assured us that every donation, regardless of size, will help make a difference as the people of Haiti cope with this disaster.

“We all must do all we can to help the people in Haiti who are suffering so much. Together, the Jayhawk Nation can make a positive impact in their lives.”
