Jan. 15, 2013

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas head football coach Charlie Weis previously announced the Kansas Spring Football game would be played on Saturday, April 13 and on Tuesday the full schedule of spring football dates was released, highlighted by the 1 p.m., kickoff of the annual game which will be held in Memorial Stadium.

Weis and his program will open up spring practice on Tuesday, March 5, and the schedule will conclude with the 1 p.m., game on Saturday, April 13. The Jayhawks will get five practices in before taking a one-week hiatus for Spring Break, and then will return for three-straight weeks of practice leading up to the game.

Per NCAA rules, KU will hold 15 practices during the spring season. As a safety precaution, in two of the practice sessions players will be limited to helmets only. Additionally in a third session players are only allowed to dress out in helmets and shoulder pads, as they are required to go through an acclimatization period. The remaining 12 practice sessions players are able to wear full pads and participate in live contact drills for a portion of practice.

Other spring dates announced were: Hannah and Friends Football Clinic with Charlie Weis and the Kansas Football Team (Saturday, March 9), Kansas Football Coaches Clinic (Friday/Saturday, April 5-6) and the Train Like a Jayhawk Kid’s Clinic (Saturday, April 13). More information on these events, including times and locations, will be provided at a later date.

Kansas will enter spring football returning 35 letterwinners, including 12 starters, from the 2012 season. On offense KU senior-to-be, James Sims, returns as the leading rusher in the Big 12, while linebacker Ben Heeney looks to build off of his sophomore season that saw him finish third in the conference in tackles with 112 stops.
