Kansas Swimming and Diving Hosts Nebraska on Senior Day
Jan. 16, 2008
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Five senior swimming and diving student-athletes will be honored Saturday when Kansas plays host to Big 12 rival Nebraska at 2 p.m. in Robinson Natatorium. 2007-08 co-captain Lauren Bonfe, alongside senior counterparts Nikki Maples, Jenny Roberts, Allie Rubino and Terri Schramka, will be recognized prior to the start of the meet for their contributions to the KU swimming and diving program during their college careers. Admission to the event is free.
The Jayhawks are coming off a winter break of intense training, including their winter training trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico. While in San Juan, Kansas competed in a shortened dual meet against Illinois State University. The `Hawks swept all events of the meet and returned to Lawrence conditioned for Big 12 and postseason competition. The win over Illinois State moved Kansas to 4-2 (0-1 Big 12), with its two losses early in the season against Missouri and Arkansas. Aside from its dual meet record, KU claimed a first-place finish at the Kenyon Invitational (Nike Cup), with 1090.5 points, and a fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Relays in Ames, Iowa.
Kansas has owned the last two meetings with Nebraska, recording a road victory at Nebraska last year (154.5-145.5) and a home victory in 2006 (176-124). The Huskers last claimed a victory over KU in 2005 when they defeated the `Hawks, 180-120, in Lincoln.
“We are really excited about getting back to competition,” head coach Clark Campbell said. “We are excited about the match-up with Nebraska, and also at the opportunity to honor our five seniors Saturday.”
